Broadwood1847Small.jpg (108880 bytes) This John Broadwood & Sons grand piano is often referred to as the Chopin Model. Basically it is a carbon copy of the piano which the Broadwood company loaned to Chopin when he visited London in 1848. That piano is featured in several books about pianos. The Broadwood Trust gave Chopin's piano on permanent loan to the Cobbe Collection of Musical Instruments in the UK.

 

Data: Beautiful Brazilian Rosewood case. Elaborate gadroon edging around the big lid, and carvings at the keyboard sides and legs. Length: 97" or 2.46 mtr. Serial # 16435, AD 1847. ( Chopin's piano was # 17047) 6 1/2 octaves, CC - g"". Ivory keyboard, eighty keys. Beautiful sound. Excellent controllable action. Fully restored in 1994 with authentic materials. Original French polish finish still present. Excellent overall condition. Price Canadian $ 27,000

1861BroadwoodDetail0.jpg (108880 bytes)This charming looking John Broadwood & Sons cottage upright piano, made in 1861, has also a very charming sound. The stringing is bi-chord and features a true 'Una Corda' pedal which shifts the entire action and keyboard. The action is very responsive. 
Anybody will agree that the book-match Brazilian Rosewood finish looks great, especially in a period interior.
Height: 48" or 1.22 mtr. Width: 53" or 1.35 mtr. The purple silk behind the fretted screens can be changed to any other colour if desired.

Steinway Model B grand pianos are highly sought after. This beautiful playing and sounding example has received a total restoration in which the cost of labour and parts were secondary to the quality of the finished product, as were many Steinway pianos restored by us for customers, or sold to very satisfied and happy customers.
A CD Rom containing circa eighty photographs of the restoration will be submitted to the serious customer who tests this piano.

The case is in appearance very similar to the pianoforte that Thomas Broadwood, John Broadwood’s son, gifted to Ludwig van Beethoven in 1817. It has six octaves; FF – f’’’’.
